Pawiwahan, Balinese Hindu traditional and unique wedding ceremony

To be married with someone you love in a very special way should be a special event and held in a very exotic place. It is said that you can never go a day without a ceremony of some kind on the island of Bali, but wedding ceremonies in Bali ae of a different kind altogether.

Wedding is a huge event in  everyone’s life, so it is for the Balinese. In a Balinese wedding, there are many unique processions involved. From the process of the wedding reception or party. A wedding in the Balinese tradition doesn’t only involved love between the couple, but it also means making a relationship to the whole extended family, aswell as the intitution that is built based on traditiona and the membership to the whole extended family, aswell as the intitution that is built based on tradition and the membership that is passed on from generation to generation of the same ancestors.

In addition to the funeral ceremony (ngaben), this ceremony is known as pawiwahan, or, in common terms, wedding ceremony. In Balinese society, pawiwahan ceremony is a form of sacred and noble commitment, because in essence, it is a testment to the ceremony before the Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa, the supreme god of the Balinese Hindus. Like the other religious ceremonies in public-Hindu-Balinese, implementation of this ceremony was also aided by a large family of both the bride and the surrounding community.

The word pawiwahan comes from the smaller word wiwaha, which means as one of the live stage of Balinese people, which is called GrhastaGrhasta itself is a part of Catur Asrama. Catur Asrama consists of GrhastaWanaprastha, and Bhiksuka. This ceremony is important because it is not until the completion of the ceremony, that banjars (village), with all teh rights and obligations there of Wedding are considered a very important part of life for the Balinese, because they are an implementation of yadnya, or a ritual to harmonize the material and the spiritual words. The wedding , or pawiwahan, becomes sacred because it is considered to be a testimony before three very important forms of withnesses; the gods, gods, beings of the underworld, and fellow human beings.

That is how the wedding ceremony process in Bali.  Wedding ceremonies in Bali has a diffent process with wedding process in other places. This is the culture and uniqueness of Bali.
